As part of the Social Development Month, the Deputy Minister of Social Development, Ms Bathabile Dlamini, will visit the Ethembeni Old Age Home in the East London on Sunday.
The event will take place as follows:
Date: Sunday, 24 October 2010
Time: 10h00
Venue: Ethembeni Old Age Home, Dutch Reformed Church, Unit 2, Mdantsane
The Ethembeni Old Age Home is a non-profit organisation (NPO) established in 2004 to take care of needy older persons and currently cares for 41 residents.
The visit forms part of the deputy minister’s continuous efforts to assess whether NGOs in the social development sector provide services in line with legislation, in particular the Older Persons Act, which promotes the rights of older persons.
In addition, the visit serves to reaffirm non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the sector as important partners and vehicles through which government can reach out to the needy people.
The deputy minister will also highlight the role of older persons in transmitting their knowledge and experiences to younger generations.
In this regard, she will encourage older persons to age actively by participating in the process of rejuvenating the moral fibre, especially by instilling the culture of respect among the youth.
Members of the media are invited to cover the event.
