Dlamini on a visit to promote children and older person's rights

As part of the Social Development Month, the Deputy Minister of Social Development, Ms Bathabile Dlamini, will embark on a visit to various centres and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) providing services in the social development sector, especially to children and older persons.

In particular, the Deputy Minister's visits will be as follows:

Through this visit, Ms Dlamini seeks to ensure the intensification of services towards the eradication of poverty, promotion of children’s rights and creating a caring society for older persons.

The Deputy Minister will dedicate the entire week to look into issues of poverty eradication through the massification of Early Childhood Development to reach poor communities.

Ms Dlamini will also look into issues of Home Community Based Care dealing with orphans and vulnerable children, as well as issues pertaining to child-headed households. The Deputy Minister will use her visit to promote the rights of children and older persons.

She will reassert the NGO sector as important service providers at the forefront of creating a caring society. “We recognise that South Africa needs a vibrant NGO sector that is seized with rendering services to our people. It is for this reason that we are committed to partnering and working with this sector in our efforts to improve the lives of our people,” said Ms Dlamini.

Importantly, the Deputy Minister will use the visit to assess the kind of service rendered by NGOs to children and older persons.
