The diski five-aside tournament reaches provincial finals

Twenty-four community based teams affiliated to South African Football Association (Safa) will vie for provincial colours at the Diski GP Five A Side finals this coming Saturday, 27 November at Muckleneuck Grounds in Mamelodi East starting at 11h00am.

The tournament, hosted by the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts Culture and Recreation in partnership with Safa Gauteng, is a culmination of a series of regional eliminations which started from 23 October 2010. The 24 teams remaining are the best of 128 who originally participated in the tournament.

The initiative, targeting under 13 and 17 players, is part of the department's and SAFA programme to develop a pool of football players with proper football skills, playing techniques as well as improving the coaching and technical skills for coaches. As part of the proceedings MEC Lebogang Maile will attend and address the tournament.

"Working closely with Safa it is our hope that through this programme we will identify talented young people who will go on to benefit from the different sports development programmes", says MEC Maile. Meanwhile, MEC Maile will lead a high profile delegation that will take part in the eighth day of the Sports Heroes Walk Against HIV and AIDS on Friday, 26 November. Personalities including Naas Botha, Oscar Pistorius, Natalie Du Toit, Dr. Ali Bacher, Dr Danny Jordaan and Lucas Radebe are also expected to be part of the delegation which will join the walkfive kilometers into Kagiso.
