The Director-General of Arts and Culture, Mr Themba Wakashe promotes men in the making campaign

The Department of Arts and Culture will host an event to mark in participation in the “Men in the Making Campaign,” an initiative by Tracker, Gauteng Department of Education and Metro FM. The campaign seeks to expose young high-school boys to various positive male role models and possibilities in career choice.

The pioneers of the campaign believe that boy children are also in need of attention, help, recognition and acknowledgement. The campaign was launched in 2009, with the aim of it growing into nationwide within two years.

Boy learners between Grades 9 to 12 are hosted by companies to expose them to future job opportunities. It is hoped that the campaign will promote relationships between companies and selected boys leading to bursaries and scholarships for identified positions. It intends to provide direction and hope to boys too.

The Director-General, Mr Themba Wakashe will welcome and host the boy learners in the morning at the department. They will have a chance to engage in discussion with him. The learners will have a tour of the department before they return to school. “We hope that this campaign grows to foster hope and responsibility in our youth. We also intend to continue with the campaign in future,” said Mr Wakashe.
