The Deputy President of the Republic of South Africa and Chairperson of the South African National Aids Council (SANAC) Kgalema Motlanthe will tomorrow, 1 December 2010, deliver a keynote address at an event to mark the World Aids Day to be held in Piet Retief in the Mpumalanga Province as South Africa joins the rest of the world in marking this day.
The Deputy President will be accompanied by Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi, Mpumalanga Premier, David Mabuza and representatives of International organizations which include the World Health Organization and UNAids.
The theme of the event is “We are Responsible”.This year's World Aids Day theme is informed by the need to work collectively in addressing South Africa's response to the HIV and AIDS pandemic.
The build-up activities for World Aids Day commenced in November with a series of community dialogues with all social partners and these dialogues will run through to June 2011.
In April this year, South Africa embarked on a massive HIV Counseling and Testing Campaign (HCT) which seeks to test 15 million people in the country by June next year as part of the HIV prevention strategy.
