South African Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe will lead a delegation to the United Nations High-Level meeting on HIV and AIDS scheduled to take place on 8 to 10 June 2011 in New York, United States of America.

Deputy President Motlanthe’s participation takes place within the context of promoting multilateral relations in the global system of governance. The purpose of the meeting is for member states to renew the political will and recommit to new targets in the fight against HIV and AIDS. It will also give Member States an opportunity to recommit to sustainable response to HIV and AIDS, broader health issues and development agenda.

Accordingly, the High-Level meeting is being held at a critical time in moving from the universal access agenda to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015.

Deputy President Motlanthe will be accompanied by Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, Minister of Health and other senior government officials.
