Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe arrives in Congo Brazzaville to attend Presidential Inauguration

Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe has today, 14 August 2009, arrived in Congo Brazzaville where is attending the inauguration of President-elect Denis Sassou Ngweso.

Deputy President takes with him to the inauguration a message of assurance to the President-elect that "South African is committed to assist in the country's unwavering movement toward the consolidation of democracy and good governance".

The Deputy President was scheduled to attend and address the 80th Birthday Rally of Ahmed Kathrada at the Trade Route Mall Convention centre in Lenasia as indicated in the Presidency Public Engagement Diary; however he is unable to attend as a result of his trip to Brazzaville.

The birthday rally will continue as planned and the Deputy President extends a happy birthday message to Ahmed Kathrada on his 80th birthday.
