Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe to address National Council of Provinces Strategic Planning Workshop

The National Council of Provinces (NCOP) today kick-started its three day strategic planning workshop; in attendance are permanent delegates of the NCOP speakers and other office bearers from the provincial legislatures, and representatives of the South African Local Government Association.

The NCOP is there to represent the interests of provinces at national level. It also provides space for organised local government to participate in legislative and other processes.

The outcome of the workshop will be a strategic framework plan which will be used to guide the work of the NCOP in this term of parliament. Delegates will be expected to identify oversight priorities which will inform the plan.

The Leader of government business and Deputy President of the Republic of South Africa, Mr Kgalema Motlanthe, will address the gathering.
