Deputy President to deliver a keynote address at the National Women’s Conference

Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe will tomorrow, 3 August 2011, deliver a keynote address at the National Women’s Conference which is underway at Birchwood Conference Centre in Boksburg, Gauteng. 
 
The conference with the overarching theme “working together for equal opportunities and progress for all women” is organised by the Department for Women, Children and People with Disabilities.
 
The aims of the conference is to re-examine progress made by government and development partners towards its commitment to a non-sexist society, identify shortcomings and propose recommendations that would ensure that women’s issues and gender equality are mainstreamed across public and private institutions.
 
The Deputy President will speak on the theme “Advancing women’s empowerment and gender equality: Engaging with patriarchy, negative stereotyping, cultural and traditional practices to address gender-based violence and a better life for all women”.
