The MRM is a civil society driven, government supported networking platform mandated to facilitate, encourage and coordinate programmes in society that work towards restoring the moral fibre of South Africa.

The July month, with the theme ”Together Nuturing The Good In Everyone Through the Charter of Positive Values”was choosen for various reasons and amongst them is the fact that, it is the month the Charter of Positive Values was formally adopted and that it is the birth month of former President Nelson Rholihlahla Mandela.

The aim of the month was to promote the Charter among the citizens of the Republic of South Africa and during this month a number of activities have taken place across the country amongst others the adoption of a school in George Town in Pietermariztburg in the KwaZulu-Natal province. George Town High School was adopted by MRM to uplift the moral fiber amongst the youth.

After the adoption by the MRM, the learners at George High have undertaken to set up a MRM structure to respond to the Charter of Positive Values. After a series of workshops on the Charter a youth dialogues were held at in the KwaZulu-Natal province to asses the understanding of the Charter and its impact in their lives.

The month was officially opened by the Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture Joe Phaahla at a ceremony hosted by the Northern Cape province Premier Hazel Jenkins. Over the past seven years, MRM, has mobilised communities and created networking forums within civil society, the three tiers of government, labour, faith-based organisations, some chapter 9 institutions, youth formations and political parties.

The Charter is an ethical framework developed by the South African community through consultations over a five year period with a variety of stakeholders and interested parties and has the following themes:
