Deputy Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs Rejoice Mabudafhasi to address the third Annual Waste Management officers Khoro and launch the National Waste Management Strategy

The Deputy Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs, Ms Rejoice Mabudafhasi will on Monday, 8 October 2012 address the third annual Waste Management Officer’s Khoro and launch the National Waste Management Strategy, at the East London International Convention Centre, Eastern Cape.

The Waste Management Officers Khoro is an annual conference for all government institutions dealing with waste. Since the Second Waste Management Officers Khoro, a lot of progress has been made in terms of waste management. One such milestone is the cabinet approval of the National Waste Management Strategy in November 2011. The Deputy Minister will officially launch this strategy at the Third Waste Management Officers Khoro.

The application of the waste management hierarchy is a fairly new practice in South Africa and since its inception in 2010, the Khoro has provided a space for waste management officers to share their experiences and establish best practices in managing waste in their respective municipalities.

A total of 400 delegates are expected to attend the Khoro in East London which will be convened under the theme “Creating Jobs and Increasing Efficiencies in the delivery of Waste Services”. As such, this year’s Khoro will place much needed emphasis on creating jobs in waste management whilst striving for the efficient delivery of waste services.
