The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Ms Tokozile Xasa will on Wednesday, 11 May 2011, deliver keynote address the Western Cape Youth Empowerment Day in Stellenbosch, Western Cape. This a collaboration between the National Department of Tourism (NDT) and the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) and the Western Cape Department of Economic Development and Tourism. The theme for the event is "Giving our youth the edge through skills development".
The event will be attended by service providers who will present their programmes to the youth and share information on the youth development programmes aimed at empowering the youth in South Africa. These organisations include the Hospitality Youth Initiative (HYI), Youth Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Federated Hospitality Association of South Africa (FEDHASA) Youth Chapter, Ubuntu Institute and National Youth Development Agency (NYDA). This initiative is one of the few programmes and projects funded and supported by the NDT to contribute to the skills development efforts that will eventually enable the youth to get jobs within the tourism industry.
