The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Ms Tokozile Xasa will be attending the International Golf Travel Market as per invitation by IAGTO the Global Golf Tourism Organisation from the 14 to 18 November 2011 to be held in Belek near Antalya, Turkey.
The International Golf Travel Market (IGTM) is the annual ‘melting pot’ for the global golf tourism industry and will this year be the launching pad for South African Golf Tourism Association (SAGTA) into the international arena as South Africa received the Golf Destination of the year award for 2011 for the African, Indian Ocean and Gulf States from IAGTO in Spain in November 2010.
SAGTA was officially launched in March in Johannesburg and Cape Town, has a main goal of marketing South Africa as one of the world’s great golfing destinations both locally and internationally. It also aims to promote golf tourism in South Africa and in so doing so generate sustainable growth in golf tourism to SA and incremental revenue to the country’s tourism industry and to SAGTA’s members from the national and international golf market.
Deputy Minister Xasa will together with the Chairperson of SAGTA Thabiso Magodielo, meet the IAGTO President & Chief Executive Peter Walton to discuss issues of importance essential to the generation of sustainable growth in golf tourism to South Africa. The Deputy Minister’s will use the opportunity to also interact with the President of the Antalya Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mr. Çetin Osman Budak including the Ministers of Tourism of Turkey and Bulgaria who will be in attendance.
The above initiatives all seek to promote South Africa as the preferred destination for the high value market of golf travel throughout the world which contributes a major portion to the world economy.
