The Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry Ms Thandi Tobias-Pokolo will join hundreds of women and men who will be participating in the Avon Justine iThemba’s 6th Annual Walkathon at the Green Point Park in Cape Town on Sunday, 30 October 2011.
The Walkathon is part of the Avon Justine iThemba Crusade for Hope which was started by Avon Justice In March 2001 to help spread education and awareness about breast cancer across South Africa. iThemba is a Zulu word which means "hope". So far Avon has raised in excess of R6 million through the sale of special "pink ribbon" products for breast cancer education and awareness in South Africa.
“As government representatives it is important that members of the public see us participate in these kinds of good initiatives that are aimed at raising awareness about various illnesses that are inflicting our society such as breast cancer. Government representatives are part of our society and issues affecting the society also affect us,” said Deputy Minister Tobias-Pokolo, who will walk the 5km distance.
