The Deputy Minister of the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti), Ms Elizabeth Thabethe, will deliver a keynote address at a public participation function (imbizo) that will be hosted jointly with Siyancuma Local Municipality tomorrow 3 November 2011 at the Douglas Rugby Stadium, outside Kimberly from 10h00. Members of the media are invited to attend the event.
The event is part of the Taking the dti to the People campaign which is intended to create awareness about the dti’s products and services, as well as the small business support services offered by its agencies. Deputy Minister Thabethe says the campaign also seeks to reinforce government’s commitment to empowering rural and peri-urban communities to accelerate job creation and sustainable economic development in the country.
‘Small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs attending the event will be advised on how to start, grow and sustain their businesses. This will happen during the formal proceedings in the form of presentations, as well as during the interactive information-sharing sessions hosted by government enterprise development agencies and provincial stakeholders at their exhibition stands’, added Thabethe.
These agencies include the Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda) Company and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC), South African Micro-finance Apex Fund (Samaf), Khula, South African Women Entrepreneurs’ Network (SAWEN), National Empowerment (NEF) and Productivity South Africa (PSA).
