London: The Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ms Sue van der Merwe is in London to participate in the World Travel Market London, the United Kingdom as part of her extended portfolio as Alternate Director on the Local Organising Committee (LOC). With 213 days to go before the FIFA World Cup 2010 kick-off, the Deputy Minister is expected to speak to issues around South Africa's readiness to host the FIFA World Cup; government guarantees that relate to infrastructure development, transport, information and communication technology (ICT), safety and security, justice, immigration, accommodation, and the African Legacy.
Deputy Minister will speak at the Financial Times round table discussion on the Government's readiness to host the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Together with FIFA 2010 Local Organising Committee CEO, Dr Danny Jordan and SA Tourism 2010 Ambassador, Mr Lucas Radebe will form part of a panel discussion at the World Travel Market under the theme: Sports Tourism Takes Poll Position. The audience will mainly be constituted by over 200 media agencies from around Europe, Asia and the Americas.
The Deputy Minister is due to return to South Africa on the morning of Wednesday, 11 November 2009.
