The Deputy Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs, Ms Rejoice Mabudafhasi, will on Friday, 17 August 2012 hand over the Environmental Science Education Centre to the University of Limpopo. The handover will take place at the University of Limpopo’s Turfloop Campus.
The Environmental Science Education Centre is expected to benefit the surrounding communities with information on environmental issues as well as education and research on a variety of projects.
The project was funded and implemented through the Department of Environmental Affairs' Environmental Protection and Infrastructure Programme (EPIP) which is aligned to the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP). EPWP emphasises a labour intensive approach that provides crucial temporary jobs which help to reduce unemployment and poverty whilst equipping employees with the necessary skills and on the job training.
Local community members, especially previously disadvantaged groups have benefited from this project and have received employment and skills training as a result of the project that ran between the period of April 2010 – June 2012.
The media is invited to witness the official handover and opening.
