Deputy Minister of Police Fikile Mbalula will deliver a keynote address at the Eastern Cape Police Reservists Summit to be hosted by Transport, Safety and Liaison MEC Ghishma Barry at the Osner Hotel in East London on Tuesday 28 July 2009 at 10h00.
The objectives of the summit are:
* to strengthen the role of reservists in the South African Police Service (SAPS)
* to improve coordination of reservists
* to capacitate reservists to understand policing
* to move towards establishing a uniform reservists structure in the Eastern Cape
* to mobilise the communities to become reservists.
This follows a number of petitions that have been submitted to the Department of Safety and Liaison about challenges faced by police reservists in various police stations in the province.
