Deputy Minister Phathekile Holomisa awards parolees and victims of crime technicians certificates, 27 Sept

The Deputy Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Nkosi Phathekile Holomisa is to preside over the certificate ceremony involving 288 victims of crime; parolees and probationers; and members of the community on Wednesday, 27 September 2023, at the Alberton Civic Centre.

This is born out of a collaborative initiative between the Department of Correctional Services (DCS), Vaal University of Technology (VUT), Human Capital Learning Solutions (HCLS) and SASSETA. The 288 will be awarded with competency certificates for Cell Phone repairs and Digital Terrestrial Television skills. The programme is mainly focused on building a larger pool of technicians with an aim of assisting them to start their ICT Small Medium and Micro Enterprises. The ceremony will further witness the certificate recipients receiving tools of trade to the value of R1000 as part of their business starter-pack. This is in addition to the New Venture Creation Learnership (business skills) for the selected candidates who have been receiving a stipend of R2 500 for a period of 12 months from 2022 to date.

A Memorandum of Understanding will also be signed by DCS and NEMISA with the aim of promoting digital awareness, digital skills and human capacity development. The event forms part of the Corrections Week held annually from 24-30 September aimed at promoting awareness and understanding of the correctional system in South Africa.
