Deputy Minister Nxesi to mediate land dispute

The Department of Rural Development and Land Reform hereby invites members of the media to join the Deputy Minister of the department Mr Thembelani Nxesi who will be mediating on a land dispute between the Mabunda Tribal Authority and Siyandhani Community.

The dispute between the two communities has led to a halt of a multimillion rand project in Siyandhani Village outside Giyani worth more than R10 million.

This project includes the construction of community offices which are supposed to house the clinic, the Department of Home Affairs and the Tribal Authority.

The Siyandhani Community had a successful land claim and were compensated more than R10 million and opted to build community offices.

The Mabunda Tribal Authority has objected to the construction because they say the land where the development is supposed to take place belongs to them and were not consulted.

After the meeting the Minister will brief members of the media on the outcome.
