Deputy Minister Ntuli to open a centre for victims of abuse in North West

As part of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign, Deputy Minister of Social Development, Ms Maria Ntuli, will on Wednesday 30 November 2011, open the Dr Ruth Mompati One Stop Centre in Vryburg, North West.

The Dr Ruth Mompati One Stop Centre is the sixth centre to be established, after successful opening of other centres in the Western Cape, Northern Cape, Mpumalanga, Gauteng and Limpopo provinces. The Khuseleka One Stop Centres are a joint initiative by the Department of Social Development and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in the interest of protecting all victims of abuse especially women and children.

These centres form part of service delivery machineries aimed at comprehensive and coordinated rendering of services to victims of abuse. Amongst other functions, the centre will be responsible for creation of awareness, linking of victims to resources, rendering of life skills programmes, psycho therapeutic intervention, and family therapy as well as provision of protection services for victims of crime, violence and abuse.

“To recommit ourselves in a fight against abuse and protection of human rights we decided to establish these centres for provision of effective support services to victims of gender based violence and other forms of abuse,” said Ms Ntuli.
