Deputy Minister Mabudafhasi to lead the International Women's Day

Water and Environmental Affairs Deputy Minister, Ms Rejoice Mabudafhasi will, on Tuesday, 8 March 2011, lead the International Women’s Day celebrations at the Voortrekker Monument Park Events Centre in Pretoria.

This year’s theme is “Equal access to education, training, science and technology: Pathway to decent work for women”

The International Women’s Day is a United Nations’ initiative aimed at celebrating the achievements of rural women. It is celebrated on 8 March annually and was celebrated for the first time in 1911. This year therefore marks a century since its initial celebration.

The purpose of the International Women’s Day is to recognise ordinary women that strive for sustainable self development, self realisation, and emancipation as well as women who have spent a great percentage of their lives in poverty and struggling for resources.

A total of 350 women from both the departments of Water and Environmental Affairs are expected to attend the event. These are women on levels 2 to 5 (secretaries, clerks, messengers, cleaners, etc).

Media is invited to attend as follows:

Date: 8 March 2011
Venue: Voortrekker Monument Park Events Centre, Pretoria
Time: 10h00
