Deputy Minister Mabudafhasi to launch greening projects in Limpopo as part of Nelson Mandela Week celebrations

Deputy Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs, Rejoice Mabudafhasi will on Monday and Tuesday, 11 and 12 July 2011 join in the country’s celebrations of Nelson Mandela Week by launching greening projects worth R190.6 million in the Greater Giyani Municipality in Limpopo province.

The greening project forms part of the Department of Environmental Affairs’ Extended Public Works Programme (EPWP) implemented nationwide. Projects implemented under this programme aid in achieving three main goals that are in line with the country’s new economic growth path; skills development, job creation and the development of Small, Medium and Macro Enterprises (SMMEs). These projects led by the department in the province are valued at R190.6 million and have created 1 032 job opportunities.

Five of these projects will form part of the Nelson Mandela Week celebrations. Collectively, these projects have created almost 500 work opportunities whilst still at 50% implementation. The projects aim to develop skills and encourage green initiatives by, amongst others, complementing waste services provided by the municipality.
