Deputy Minister Mabudafhasi to kick start Women's Month activities at Rivoningo Hospice on Mandela Monday

Ms Rejoice Mabudafhasi, Deputy Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs together with women from both the Departments of Water and Environmental Affairs will kick start Women’s Month activities at Rivoningo Hospice on Mandela Monday, 1 August 2011, in Pretoria.

Rivoningo Care Centre is a 20 Bed Hospice situated in the inner city of Pretoria. It started its operation in February 2005. It houses terminally ill patients. Since its inception 583 patients have received palliative care from the centre. The Hospice is currently sustaining itself through donations. A doctor and social worker volunteer on a weekly basis at the centre which does not have a resident doctor or social worker. 

To mark the beginning of Women’s Month activities, the Deputy Minister together with women from both departments will spend the day at the Hospice, planting trees, cultivating food gardens cleaning and helping with house chores. Mabudafhasi will also hand over items such as two JoJo water tanks, blankets, sheets, bedspreads, ready to hang veil and curtains, electric stove, microwave, t-shirts and shopper bags. Gardening items such as shade trees, seedlings (flowers and vegetables), garden tools as well as dust bins - to promote recycling will be provided.

The Deputy Minister will be joined by Indalo Yethu, the national environmental awareness campaign body.
