Deputy Minister Mabudafhasi to attend the Pan African Ministerial Conference

Water and Environmental Affairs Deputy Minister, Ms Rejoice Mabudafhasi, today departs for Libreville, Gabon where she will attend the Pan African Ministerial Conference from 15 to 17 September 2010.

The conference in Libreville aims to discuss the African priorities in terms of biodiversity and to consolidate a common African position to be presented during the 10th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity to be held from 18 to 29 October 2010 in Nagoya, Japan.

The expected outcomes of the Libreville conference would focus on consolidation and the adoption of a common African position on the following: 

  • post 2010 biodiversity strategy targets and the means of implementation;
  • the international regime on access and benefits sharing;
  • protocols on biosafety, liability and redress;
  • biodiversity science policy platforms.

Deputy Minister Mabudafhasi is expected to be back in South Africa on 18 September 2010.
