Deputy Minister Mabudafhasi to announce winners of National Youth Water Awards at the Youth Summit

Ms Rejoice Mabudafhasi, Deputy Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs will announce the winners of the National Youth Water Awards at the closing ceremony of the Youth Summit on Water and Climate Change on 28 June 2011, in Birchwood Hotel, Boksburg.

The Deputy Minister will present the Youth Awards in the following categories:

  • Baswa le Meetse (Youth in Water) - This competition-based project targets Grade 6 learners and conveys health and hygiene messages through medium of art, ie drama, traditional music, poetry, praise singing and posters.
  • South African Youth Water Prize (SAYWP) - Learners between Grade 9 and 11 are engaged in identifying problems and develop inventions and awareness projects to solve them. The project serves as an incubator for the Learning Academy.
  • Aqua-Enduro - The core business of the programme is issues of drinking water quality. The aim is to develop an interest in learners who are between Grade 8 and 11 to pursue careers in the water sector.
  • Public Speaking – Targets Grade 6 learners and focuses on raising awareness about the impact of Climate Change on water resources.
The Youth will hand over a declaration crafted during the Summit raising their concerns and recommendations on water and climate change related issues to the Ministers.

Minister of Water Resources from the Republic of Zimbabwe and other 11 delegates from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region are also attending the Youth Summit.
