Deputy Minister Lechesa Tsenoli to restitute land worth R17 million to Motlhabatse community 13 June 2012

The Department of Rural Development and Land Reform in Limpopo invites members of the media to the land restitution celebration for Motlhabatse community.

The Deputy Minister of the Department Mr Lechesa Tsenoli will be accompanied by the mayor of Thabazimbi Local Municipality Mrs Patricia Moshito to hand over more than 2000 hectares of land which amount to a total of R 17 million.

The land handover will benefit a total of 77 households of which 15 are headed by women. The community lost their land in 1967 when members of the community were ordered to vacate the land by the then government. They lost the land after it was given to the whites soldiers who had returned to the country from the first World War.

Among the first white soldiers who had returned from the first world to occupy the land were Jack Botha, Collen de Beer and Gert Grobelaar.

The land to be restored is the remaining extent of portion 1 and portion 2 of the farm Colchester 17KQ.
