The revise standards will be presented to the stakeholders for inputs and endorsement at Birchwood Conference Centre in Boksburg tomorrow. This will assist to measure the performance of health facilities against the set standards.
The priorities of the national core standards will also be outlined and endorsed, to fast-track quality improvement. There is wide agreement and evidence that the following priorities are not being properly implemented. They are:
* patient safety
* infection control
* availability of medicines and supplies
* waiting times
* cleanliness
* positive and caring attitudes
Speakers including a representative from the World Health Organisation (WHO), policymakers and researchers have been lined up to speak on these issues.
