With 101 days before the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup, Deputy Minister of Health Dr Molefi Sefularo will on Monday, 1 March 2010 conduct an inspection on the state of readiness of medical facilities of the Western Cape Province.
The Deputy Minister will be accompanied by the Surgeon General of the South African Health Military Services (SAHMS) V Ramlakan and the Western Cape MEC's of Health and Sport, Mr Theuns Botha and Mr Sakkie Jenner respectively.
The inspection seeks to investigate if we are on track in fulfilling our commitments which include the provision of 24-hours services in the following areas:
* emergency medical services
* hospital services
* port health
* environmental health
* communicable disease control
* health promotion
* forensic medical services
* pathology services
* clinic medico-legal
The inspection will also include hospital visits to check staffing levels and bed availability, state of ambulances and the medical centre at the Cape Town Stadium.
The Deputy Minister will announce the "Kick TB 2010" campaign and unveil the tuberculosis (TB) ambassadors, including UK R&B artist Craig David who leads the campaign.
Craig David's visit to the country will showcase support for the fight against TB and act as an endorsement from WHO on South Africa's effort in combating TB.
