Dr Pieter Mulder, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries is, invited as guest speaker as a dinner celebration of A.L.G. Estates’ accolade as South Africa’s National Farmer of the Year 2010.
The event will be preceded by a short tour of the citrus operations in the Upper Olifants River valley near Citrusdal. It will include a visit to a packhouse and juicing plant, employees conveniences such as sport and school facilities as well as a number of Black Economic Empowerment programmes currently underway. There will be ample opportunity to interact with employees for some first-hand impressions.
The dinner celebration will also mark the end of the annual Western Cape Citrus Producers’ Forum conference and be attended by their delegates. These will include representatives from top importers and supermarket chains from the US, UK and the EU. Representatives from other sectors of the fresh fruit industry and shipping export companies will also attend the celebration.
