The Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, Derek Hanekom will deliver a keynote address at the European-South African Science and Technology Advancement Programme (ESASTAP2) award ceremony to be held on 28 September 2011 at the Emperors Palace (Senate 1), from 19h00.
ESASTAP is a dedicated platform for the advancement of European - South African scientific and technological cooperation.
The building of strong international relations is seen as crucial to achieving and maintaining enduring and equitable benefits from science and technology for all South Africans. The relationship with the European Union is undoubtedly one of South Africa's most strategic partnerships in international science and technology relations. South Africa and the European Union enjoy a privileged partnership marked by longstanding political, economic and development cooperation ties.
The awards are part of the ESASTAP2 project and will recognise excellence in the following three categories:
- capacity development – projects which have contributed to building research capacity, looking at the number and the level of researchers involved in the project life cycle
- innovation award – projects which have developed new products and services
- life time award – researches that have made significant input through their participation.
The project officially started in 2008 and will run until 28 February 2012.
