Deputy Minister of the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform Mr Thembelani (Thulas) Nxesi to mediate on a land dispute in Limpopo

The Department of Rural Development and Land Reform in Limpopo cordially invites members of the media to join the Deputy Minister Mr Thembelani (Thulas) Nxesi who will be mediating on a land dispute between the Hlaneki Tribal Authority and Shimange Community.

The dispute between the two communities has led to a halt of a multimillion rand project in Shimange village outside Giyani worth more than R10 million. Chief Hlaneki has obtained an interim court order which has stopped the construction. This project includes the construction of community office, clinic and the Tribal Office.

The Shimange Community had a successful land claim and were compensated more than R10 million and opted to build a clinic, Tribal Office and community office. The Hlaneki Authority has objected to the construction because they say the land where the development is supposed to take place belongs to them and were not consulted. Members of the media will be briefed by the Deputy Minister on the outcomes of the meeting.

The details of the meeting are as follows:-
Date: 17 October 2011
Venue: Greater Giyani Municipality (Golf Course)
