Deputy Minister of Communications takes RICA to the people

The Deputy Minister of Communications, Mr Obed Bapela will be driving the Regulation of Interception of Communications Act (RICA) Campaign on Friday, 17 June at the Baragwanath Taxi Rank in Diepkloof, Soweto.

RICA provides for the lawful interception of communications, such as voice and data conversations between persons including phone calls, e-mails and postal services. As the leaders in Information Communications Technology, the department is driving this campaign to remind people of the registration deadline of the 30 June 2011.

The mobile operators will be on site with their vans to assist in this campaign to support the process by giving the community of Soweto and the surrounding areas to RICA on the spot.

The Deputy Minister will be interacting with the commuters, taxi drivers, community members and the residents of Soweto; he will also be handing out flyers informing the citizens about the importance of registering SIM cards and its deadline.
