Deputy Minister to appear before Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa)

The Standing Committee on Public Accounts will tomorrow get a briefing from the Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Mr Yunus Carrim on the progress made with regard to the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) and KwaZulu-Natal Local Government Association (KWANALOGA).

At a Scopa hearing last month, it emerged that SALGA got an auditor’s disclaimer of opinion because of problems emanating from KWANALOGA. The Committee resolved that the Deputy Minister should intervene to normalise the situation.

Also appearing before the Committee will be the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Local Government and Traditional Affairs Ms Nomusa Dude, SALGA and KWANALOGA delegations.

The meeting is scheduled to take place as follows:

Venue: V475, Old Assembly Building, Parliament
Date: 27 May 2010
