Deputy Home Affairs Minister Fatima Chohan to issue birth certificates to babies born on New Year’s Day in Cape Town

Home Affairs Deputy Minister Fatima Chohan will on Sunday, 1 January 2012, issue babies born on New Year’s Day, at the Mowbray Maternity Hospital in Cape Town, with birth certificates.

This comes within the context of the department’s commitment to ensure all babies are registered and issued with birth certificates within thirty (30) days of birth.

In line with this, the Mowbray Hospital will for the first time, receive a dedicated Home Affairs official to assist parents with the registration of their new babies, from 1 January 2012.  The Hospital is also equipped with an online registration facility linked to the department’s database at Head office.
