Home Affairs Deputy Minister Fatima Chohan will on Monday 16 January 2012 interact with learners at the Belgravia and Ned Dorman High Schools in Athlone, Cape Town, with a view to encouraging all 16 year olds to apply for identity documents (IDs), as part of the National Population Registration Campaign.
A special focus on will on all grade 12 learners since an ID is an essential requirement during their final examinations.
An ID is also a passport to a better life since it enables holders to access all social services provided by government as well as opportunities for, amongst others, further education and training.
In this regard, the Department of Home Affairs will deploy its mobile offices as well as dedicated officials to the Ned Dorman High School to ensure learners are assisted with ID applications.
In addition, and as part of a community outreach programme, mobile offices will be stationed at the Vangate Shopping Mall on Sunday 28 January 2012 to assist learners with ID applications as well as other members of the community with other services rendered by the Department of Home Affairs.
