Departments to celebrate Mandela Day

Free State Department of Police, Roads and Transport together with Department of Cooperative governance, Traditional Affairs and Human settlement will celebrate Mandela day on Wednesday, 18 July 2012 at Bodibeng Secondary School, Maokeng in Kroonstad at 7h30.

Nelson Mandela Day not only celebrates Nelson Mandela’s life, but it is also a global call to action for people to recognise their ability to have a positive effect on others around them. The day hopes to inspire people to embrace the values that Mandela shared. These values include democracy, freedom, equality, diversity, reconciliation, and respect.

Many people and organisations around the world will take part in many activities to promote Nelson Mandela Day. These activities include volunteering, sport, art, education, music and culture. The department of Police, Roads and Transport together with the department Cooperative governance, Traditional Affairs and Human settlement of will embark on variety of activities such as painting of school, cleaning of clinic and donating some blankets and uniforms for the needy, all of these will be happening at Maokeng in Kroonstad as part of Mandela day celebrations.

The MEC for Police, Roads & Transport, hounarable Butana Kompela and MEC for Cooperative governance, Traditional Affairs and Human settlement, hounarable Olly Mlamleli are expected to grace the occasion. The MEC’s will be joined by the Executive Mayor of Moqhaka local Municipality Cllr Jihad Mohapi and councillors.
