The Department of Trade and Industry’s (the dti’s) South African Handmade Collection (SAHC) will once again partner Decorex South Africa Johannesburg to showcase over 100 of mzansi’s best emerging and established crafters. The exhibition will take place at Gallagher Convention Centre, Midrand, from 6 to 10 August 2009.
The media is invited to attend the SAHC stand from 6 to 10 August 2009.
Eighteen (18) buyers from the United States of America, Japan, the Netherlands, Germany and Malaysia, as well as local buyers, will be hosted as part of marketing the national craft industry to potential international investors.
The exhibition will be coupled with business development seminars, to be presented by the Department of Trade and Industry group services.
One of the highlights in this collection will be the icons live exhibition, featuring the best of mzanzi’s ceramics crafters:
* Hennie Meyer
* Majolandile Dyalvane
* Cathrine Brennon
* Deon de Lange
* Rebecca Mathibe
* Ardmore Ceramic Art
* Clive Sithole
* Simon Masilo
* Meshack Masuku.
Having recently showcased South African wares at the 2009 Feira International de Lisboa (FIA) or International Handicraft Exhibition in Portugal, the largest of its kind to be held in the Western European nation, the SAHC is fast becoming a global household name within the arts and craft industries, continuously marketing the vast creativity in South Africa and attracting much-needed foreign investment.
The success of the SAHC brand is founded on the strong alliance between the Department of Trade and Industry, provincial government departments and the Tourism Enterprise Programme (TEP), to expose the South African craft industry to new markets (locally and international) and assist existing ones to grow their businesses.
