Department of Trade and Industry to host the inaugural South African Quality Awards

The Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Maria Ntuli will deliver a keynote address at the inaugural South African Quality Awards at the Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg on Tuesday, 9 March 2010 from 15h00.

The purpose of the awards is to recognise and reward enterprises that have made concerted efforts to improve the quality of South African goods and services, as well as to encourage individuals to invest their time and resources to improve the quality of their products and services.

According to Tshenge Demana, Chief Director of Technical Infrastructure at the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti), the South African Quality Awards are an initiative established by the government to promote the use of quality and the adoption of effective quality management methodologies by South African enterprises in improving industrial competitiveness.

“The awards are intended to promote and raise awareness about the need for quality assurance, quality management and the different methods on how to achieve quality and thus recognise and appreciate enterprises and individuals who are contributing to quality advancement in all sectors,” said Demana

The awards comprise of five categories namely: two for small and medium enterprises, two for big business and one individual award category. The winners will automatically qualify for the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Annual Quality Awards.
