The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) will host the liquor regulation compliance seminar for liquor industry associations, macro manufacturers and distributors at the Cape Town Lodge, on Wednesday, 30 May 2012 starting at 9h00.
Members of the media are invited to attend.
The purpose of the seminar is to increase compliance with the National Liquor Act (NLA) by liquor manufacturers and distributors, and also to promote and inculcate adherence to the mandatory conditions stipulated in their registration certificates.
“One of the objectives of the National Liquor Act is to promote the development of a responsible and sustainable liquor industry in a manner that facilitates an ethos of social responsibility. the dti supports this objective through appropriate education and awareness seminars to share with registrants areas that are topical so as to foster responsible trading through compliance, enforcement and responsible licensing,” says the Chief Director of the National Liquor Authority of the dti, Ms Thezi Mabuza.
The regulation of liquor is a shared competency of both national and provincial government and in terms of the legislation, the NLA has the mandate to monitor and enforce compliance to the mandatory conditions stipulated in the registrants’ licences of macro manufactures and distributors.
Though the seminar is directed at national registrants, Ms Mabuza emphasised that all licensees and registrants in the liquor trade have the responsibility and obligation to operate within the parameters of the legislation.
