Early last year, Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula has called on South Africans to get behind the Springboks ahead of the World Cup, and the athletes preparing for the All Africa Games, by flying the flag on Magnificent Fridays. Now it is time to get behind the South African Olympic team.
With the Olympic games in London only days away, Community Sport will be hosting Magnificent Friday on 29 June 2012 in Windburg. The event will start at Verkeerdevlei toll gate at around 10h00 sensitising the passing motorists and also issuing promotional material.
Activities at Verkeerdevlei toll gate will take approximately 2 hours, when a motorcade will travel to Makeleketla. The community will be invited to join us on the playing grounds for a day of fun. The Director of Community sport will address the crowd on the purpose of the day. After that the community will be engaged in soccer, netball and rugby matches.
The Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation is looking forward to a truly Magnificent Friday, getting behind the South African Olympic team in their quest to bring home gold.
