The MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Mr Norman Mokoena will dispatch a team of senior officials to Barlfour, under the Dipaleseng local municipality, as part of the follow up meetings that were promised by President Jacob Zuma when he paid a surprise visit to the area on 4 August 2009.
The team of officials will be dispatched to each of the six wards to give feedback on the progress made on the issues that were raised by the community.
The visit by the department follows the recent visit by the Minister in the Presidency responsible for Performance Monitoring and Evaluation, Mr Collins Chabane, the Minister for Public Works Mr Geoff Doidge, The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Mr Sicelo Shiceka and the MEC Mokoena to Dipaleseng where they met the leadership of council and community structures and gave them a progress report on the interventions put in place to address the challenges and concerns that had been raised by the community.
Significant progress has been raised in dealing with the issues that were raised in the memorandum dated 8 July 2009 that was submitted by the community. Some of the issues raised were around education, social and economic infrastructure, service delivery, housing, crime and health.
Some of the achievements that have been made on these issues include the Department of Home Affairs extending its services from two days a week to five days at the Thusong Service Centre, the provincial government will complete all incomplete houses, a community policing forum will be with established with the community, the National Youth Development Agency will establish an office in Siyathemba and assist the municipality to finalise the youth policy and strategy and the MEC’s of Health in Mpumalanga and Gauteng signing an agreement that allows the Siyathemba community to make use of the public hospital in Heidelberg Gauteng.
