Department meets with municipalities to tackle housing delivery issues

In an effort to fast track the delivery of houses in all district and local municipalities across the province, the department led by housing MEC Mrs Nombulelo Mabandla will meet with mayors, municipal managers and housing officials from the department and municipalities throughout the province to tackle housing issues affecting the rate of housing delivery in the province.

All housing institutions critical in housing delivery process will be part of this forum. This will be done through the quarterly convened housing MUNIMEC comprising of the housing MEC, head of department, mayors, municipal managers and housing officials from both the department and municipalities.

MUNIMEC is an intergovernmental forum that brings together the MEC, mayors and their administrative officials to address housing challenges including spending allocated funds for housing development.

This forum meets quarterly to identify and find solutions to any problems identified on housing development. The forum will focus on availability of land, progress on rectification of defective houses, unblocking of blocked projects, new projects and rural housing.

Date: Starting today, 17 August to 18 August 2009
Time: Today’s meeting starts at 16h00 opening with MEC addressing the forum, to end tomorrow 17h00
