Department launches October Transport Month

The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport in partnership with National Department of Transport is launching the October Transport Month. The launch will take place in Soweto on Monday, 1 October 2012.

Undertaken under the theme “Working together to provide a safe and reliable transport system ' the month long campaign is aimed at rais ing awareness of the important role transport play s in the economy, seek partnerships and participation from civic society and businesses in th e provis ion of safer, more affordable, accessible and reliable transport system. It also serves as a platform through which the National Department of Transport,  provincial departments, transport agencies and metropolitan/district municipalities engage directly with transport stakeholders.

The October Transport Month will also focus on transport projects creat ing jobs, develop ing efficient and reliable public transport with a bias towards pedestrian road safety, public transport and infrastructure development.

The month of October was declared Transport Month and affords the national Department of Transport, its agencies, provincial departments and  metropolitan/district municipalities to implement various activities to profile and celebrate transport achievements.
