The Department of Social Development & Special programmes will kick-start the Youth Month by launching Sibambisene Youth Project on 1 June 2012, at Mission Location, Butterworth at 14h00.
The project which manufactures bricks was funded in 2011 with R500 000 by the department. The project members have marketed the project very well as indicated by the profit they have made to date. This is one of many initiatives by the department in its commitment to promote entrepreneurship development programme for young people.
This project launch falls within June, the Youth Month. Young people of the generation of 1976, united in the fight for the liberation of South Africa, plainly expressed their preparedness to sacrifice their lives to the liberation of South Africa. This month must be used as a month wherein the struggle for access to control of social and economic resources is continued.
The department believes that a nation's success depends also on its ability to encourage, harness and incorporate into its endeavours the creativity, daring and energy of young people. Millions of rands have been set aside for youth development in the province.
