Department to launch health posts

In an effort to improve the quality of primary health care in the province, Gauteng Health and Social Development MEC, Ntombi Mekgwe will tomorrow officially launch the health posts at Boipatong, Sedibeng.

The aim of the health posts is to render community oriented primary care, to reduce waiting times in the clinics and to bring services closer to the people. This initiative also plans on taking chronic medication directly to patients at home, attending to minor ailments and providing elementary care closer to communities.

Each health post will be manned by a clinical team consisting of doctors, nurses, social workers and other allied health professionals as well as the community health workers. The clinical team will be responsible for all social and health related issues of the community under their care. Complicated conditions will be referred to Boipatong Community Health Centre for further management.

The process is expected to roll out in all other sub-districts in Sedibeng. The next implementation will be in Mamello, Sharpeville and Bophelong also in the Vaal.
