Department of Labour’s employment equity (EE) Directorate resumes roadshows on: “Bridging equity gap”

The Department of Labour’s (DoL) Employment Equity (EE) Advisory Unit will this week host another in a series of employment equity workshops on Revised Code of Good Practice on HIV/AIDS and the World of Work in the Eastern Cape and Western Cape.

The first workshop will be held tomorrow (August 21) at Grand West Hotel, Western Cape, and on (August 21) at Kat Leisure-Hotel Osner in East London and followed on August 22 by another workshop at Port Elizabeth’s Eastern Cape Training Centre.

The workshops are part of a national road-show conducted throughout the country’s major centres, following last year’s Department of Labour consultations with stakeholders that were done throughout the country in 2011.

Last year’s national road show was used by the department to elicit inputs from employers and various stakeholders with the assistance of the International Labour Organisation to develop a set of guidelines and policies on how to deal with the human immune virus (HIV) and acquired immune deficiency syndrome (Aids) in the workplace.

The purpose of the Road-shows is to present the revised Code of Good practice on HIV and Aids and the world of work and to also remind employers about this year’s Employment Equity Reporting. Both Manual and online reporting start on September 1, 2012. Manual reporting closes on October 1, 2012 whilst, Online reporting concludes on January 15, 2013.

This year’s road-shows, under the theme: “Bridging the equity gap” are aimed at employers or heads of companies, assigned senior managers, consultative forum members, human resources practitioners, trade unions, employees, Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) rating agencies and community constituencies.

So far two road shows have been held in Johannesburg and Pretoria, Gauteng Province. All road-shows are held from 10h00 to 13h00.
