Department to host non-communicable diseases summit

The Department of Health and Social Development will tomorrow 5 July 2011 host the non-communicable diseases summit at Poliomyelitis Research Foundation in Sandringham.

Non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, cancer and chronic respiratory diseases account for 60 percent of all deaths globally. They also share common risk factors.

The first lady of South Africa, Bongi Ngema-Zuma will deliver a keynote address at this summit which aims to develop a plan of action to control and manage non communicable diseases in the province.

Non-governmental organisations, representatives from Universities, Research Institutions and other stakeholders involved in non-communicable diseases prevention, control and management in the province are expected to attend the summit.

Journalists are invited to attend.
