Department of Energy launches R77 million hydro electronic plant project to generate energy from renewable energy sources in Bethlehem, Free State

Department of Energy in conjunction with Women in Oil and Energy South Africa (WOESA), HydroSA, National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) and Bethlehem hydro will launch a R77 million hydro electronic plant project to generate energy from renewable energy sources in Bethlehem, Free State. The Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Ms Gwen Mahlangu-Nkabinde will launch the project on behalf of the government and Minister of Energy Ms Dipuo Peters.

Bethlehem Hydro is a small-scale hydro electric plant of 3.1 Megawatt which is installed at the Solplaatjie Dam (formerly known as Saulspoort Dam) in the Free State province. It is expected that about 33 000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions will be reduced through the project.

Amongst other dignitaries invited are the Premier, the Mayor of Bethlehem and members of the portfolio committee on energy.
