Department delivers houses to rural women of Limpopo

Members of the Media are invited to a handing-over of houses ceremony scheduled to take place at Gombani village, Limpopo-Mutale Municipality (Nwanedi Resort). The Deputy Minister of Women, Children and People with Disabilities, Ms Hendrietta Bogopane Zulu, will be handing over newly constructed houses built by the women themselves through a Hydraform process.

The houses were constructed by a community-based Women Co-operative from the village as part of a women’s rural construction project within the EPWP (Expanded Public Works Program) Infrastructure programme.

This project was formed in partnership with the Independent Development Trust, Agrement SA, South African Women in Construction, and the Mmabatho Foundation for Women Development and Hydraform, government and private sector partners. In August 2011, Ms Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu, formerly Deputy Minister of Public Works, committed to the supervision of the project for a period of six months to ensure its success.

At this hand-over ceremony, a new project in partnership with the PPC Cement Company – intended to alleviate poverty in the village - will also be launched. The Departments of Public Works, Rural Development and Land Reform, Provincial Government, Traditional Leaders have been invited and are expected to attend the hand-over ceremony.
